Easy D.I.Y. Halloween Mummy and Ghost Cookies

I recently spotted adorable Mummy Cookies at  Joan’s on Third and decided to make some at home 🙂  Great and easy treat for Halloween parties!

Haloween Mummy Cookies Supplies

(Recipe adapted from my favorite sugar cookie recipe from Clabber Girl)

  • 1 1/4 Sticks or 10 tablespoons of butter at room temp (can use salted or unsalted for this I prefer salted)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 2 cups of unbleached all purpose flower
  • cookie cutter
  • white decorative icing with flat tip
  • un-greased cookie sheets

Preheat oven to 350Preheat the oven to 350

Sugar Cookie Dough, What sugar cookie dough should look likeMix Ingredients

  • Start by softening the butter in a large bowl and mix in sugar (you can use a electric mixer but I usually just use a spoon)
  • In separate bowl combine other dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder)
  • Mix butter sugar combo and dry combo along with egg and vanilla extract
  • You may need to do some kneading with your hands if ingredients are not sticking together

Mummy / Gingerbread sugar cookiesCookie Cut Outs

(You can pat dough into 1 inch thick rectangle shape in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for 20 minuets before cutting into shapes)

If you are in a rush skip the fridge step and flatten pieces of dough in hands or on cutting board and cut into Mummy shapes (towards the end I realized if you take off one leg from the mummy you can reshape into ghosts as well)

Set Bake Time 10 mins Bake for 10 Mins

Check on cookies at 10 min point to see if they are ready (May be between 10 and 12 minuets)  Do not wait till you see cookies browning, they will continue to cook themselves a little after they are removed from the oven
